Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) Briefing for IPED Students: Global Affairs and Career Opportunities
On March 7, 2025, IPED and IPE students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and attend a special briefing led by Rebecca Patterson, a senior Fellow at the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR). The CFR, renowned for its non-partisan approach, plays a crucial role in fostering an understanding of global affairs and the foreign policy choices confronting the United States and countries worldwide.
Rebecca Patterson is a globally recognized investor and macroeconomic researcher with over twenty-five years of experience across the US, Europe, and Asia. She studies how politics and policy intersect with economic trends to drive financial markets. She is an independent director at Vanguard and a global asset manager with over $10 trillion in assets under management. Through the Washington Speakers Bureau, she is also a frequently requested speaker on macroeconomic and financial market topics, providing actionable insights to various companies and industry organizations.
Following the enlightening session, the students had the privilege of meeting with a representative from the Human Resources Department at CFR for a valuable Q&A session. This interaction provided an excellent opportunity for the students to gain insights into potential career paths within the organization and receive guidance on enhancing their job applications. The discussion was immensely beneficial, offering students practical advice on navigating the competitive landscape and positioning themselves for success in international relations.

Career in Finance: Visit to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)
After the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), IPED students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street in Manhattan. Students met with floor traders and learned about the history of the NYSE, as well as how trading has changed with the introduction of new technologies.
