Bea Lumanas presents “Supporting Education Frontline Workers in Afghanistan”

On April 11th, 2022 IPED alumna Bea Lumanas gave a talk titled “Supporting Education Frontline Workers in Afghanistan amidst the Economic Crisis” as part of IPED’s annual Fordham Francis Index (FFI) research process. Research for the FFI is largely supported by the Spring Foreign Aid and Development class. The talk was hosted over lunch at Mario’s on Arthur Avenue and attended by students from different areas of study within and outside of IPED.

Bea’s work for UNICEF Afghanistan focused on emergency cash transfers to educators to ensure teaching continued during this transitional period. She spoke about the roadblocks relating to data collection and data quality in implementing, monitoring, and evaluation projects of this kind. Education is one of the main indicators used in the FFI, which made this topic of great relevance to our research.
