From Theory to Practice: Boitumelo (Tyree) Shabangu’s Journey into Equity Research at Zuanic & Associates

This summer, I worked remotely as an Equity Research Intern at Zuanic & Associates (ZA), a consulting and research advisory firm led by Wall Street equity analyst Pablo Zuanic.

I was engaged in rigorous research, financial model building, and presentations from May to September. I worked from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Thursday, monitoring the stock performance of companies. This involved daily presentations, updates, and building or updating financial models for each company.

This internship sparked my interest in equity research. While I had no experience in the field, I now see it as a potential career path. The hands-on work allowed me to apply the finance and banking theory I studied in my IPED courses in a practical way. Despite being unpaid, the IPED summer funding supported me, enabling me to focus fully on the work without financial worries. Weekly guest speakers also provided valuable networking opportunities and insights, enriching the experience.
