Terra Collier’s Internship At The Belmont Business Improvement District (BID)

By Terra Collier

I work at the Belmont Business Improvement District (BID). As one of many BIDs across the city, its mission is to promote and expand the economic wellbeing of the Bronx Little Italy commercial district. The Belmont BID is proud to support a longstanding business and cultural hub through its relationship-centered approach and supplemental service offerings such as public safety, marketing and advocacy.

As an intern, I support the Executive Director with a myriad of tasks that help this nonprofit run smoothly. This includes writing letters for grant applications, interviewing local business owners for press releases, updating the BID’s website, preparing marketing materials, and much more.

In the fall semester, the highlights were definitely participating in Ferragosto and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Ferragosto is the BID’s most popular annual event, attracting thousands of visitors to Arthur Avenue to celebrate Italian cuisine and culture. The Tree Lighting Ceremony gathered the community in Ciccarone park to enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, live music, a toy giveaway, and, of course, the tree lighting. This semester, I am looking forward to continuing to support the BID in its efforts to help this small but mighty community flourish.
