Internship Spotlight: Giselle’s Impactful Work with the Office of The Bronx Borough President

By Giselle Schmitz

My Coverdell Fellowship has provided me with the opportunity to work for the Office of The Bronx Borough President. The Office of the Bronx Borough President works cooperatively with New York City and New York State governments as well as community groups and public agencies for the benefit of local citizens and The Bronx community.

The internship is primarily with the General Counsel and the Policy Department where the daily work consists of researching and drafting memoranda and reports, in particular, a policy report concerning the ongoing pollution in the Hutchinson River. In addition, over the last few months, I have worked with the Planning & Development Department to successfully reestablish a Solid Waste Advisory Board in the Bronx.
