Washington Career Trip ’09

We arrived in Washington on Thursday morning, November 5th.  Our first briefing was at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). We are very thankful to the Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs for arranging our briefing, which also included a presentation by one of our alums.

Following our briefing we were off to lunch at the Elephant and Castle Restaurant where we also were able to meet up with several of our DC alumni.

In the afternoon we next visited the US International Trade Administration at the Department of Commerce.

Several of our alumni at Commerce introduced us to their work regarding US international trade policy and US foreign investment policy.

After returning to our hotel for a short rest we then went to a nearby Mexican Restaurant where we were able to socialize with a number of our DC alums.

On Friday morning, November 6th, we received an excellent presentation at the US Foreign Agricultural Service.  We also met one of our alums who was involved in forecasting the production and prices of various commodities.
.

Following our presentation and lunch at the Department of Agriculture, we then proceeded to Capitol Hill.  On Capitol Hill we were the guests of Congressman Peter Hoekstra (R-Michigan), who is the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.  We are particularly thankful to the Congressman’s staff, who arranged for a wonderful tour of the Capitol.

Special thanks also to Ms. Kari Nelson for coordinating our trip.
