For my summer internship, I had the great opportunity to work as a program assistant for the United Nations Development Programme’s Learning for Nature team. It was a continuation of my internship throughout my school year with them, but this time, I got to work full-time. While the UNDP Learning for Nature office is based in New York, the role was remote since the team is based in different parts of the world.
Throughout my two-month internship, I supported the team as we prepared for the Nature for Life Hub 2024, a leading virtual event and global communications campaign hosted annually by the United Nations Development Programme and its partners. Together, we put nature at the heart of sustainable development by convening world leaders, businesses, NGOs, Indigenous Peoples, youth leaders, and activists to take ambitious action on nature. Specifically, I helped with the team’s communications plans, identification of advocates and performers, and developing trailers and other video materials for the Hub. Alongside preparation for the Hub, I helped implement designs for the Spanish translations of the Gender and Biodiversity Decision-Making course, which helped me practice my Spanish and taught me more about National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
While my internship period was short, I was lucky enough that I was already working with the team before my internship period, which allowed me to familiarize myself with the organization and its partners. My full-time status meant that I could become much more integrated into the team and felt fulfilled by the duties, responsibilities, and tasks I accomplished.
