For summer 2000, the IPED Program awarded two Language Immersion Study Awards (LISA) to Ms. Siria Maniam and Mr. David Price. Fordham gave funding to both students so they could travel overseas and attend an intensive language immersion program.
Ms. Siria Maniam (second from the left) spent many hours during the summer in the language lab of the Institut de Francais located in Villefranche-sur-mer in France, while
Mr. David Price (second from the left) lived with a Portuguese speaking family while studying at the Dialogo Institute located in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Both students returned safely to New York from their overseas studies with enhanced language skills.
Each year up to two IPED students are awarded LISA Scholarships on a competitive basis. Scholarship recipients are able to spend the summer after the completion of their first year of study in an intensive overseas language immersion program that must include a home stay. Foreign language proficiency is frequently required for various career paths.
