COMMUNITY DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT and PROJECT ASSESSMENT were the key themes of our winter intersession study tour of the Philippines. Our host was the Economics Department of the Ateneo de Manila University.
FIELD ASSESSMENTS
Our students conducted field surveys of a land rights project in the Southern Luzon province of Batangas and an educational project and a livestock project in the Central Luzon province of Tarlac. We are indebted to the Office of Social Concerns and Issues at the Ateneo de Manila University for making our site visits a reality.

CLASSROOM PREPARATION AT THE ATENEO DE MANILA
Prior to conducting their field site visits, our students received intensive training in project assessment, cross cultural communication as well as an introduction to the Philippines. We are very thankful to the Ateneo de Manila University for providing us access to their faculty and classrooms. We also need to thank the Institute for Social Order for allowing us to use their dormitories and cafeteria.
CULTURAL EXCURSIONS
Besides our field visits and classroom training, we were also able to visit a number of cultural sites such as Corregidor Island and Intramuros. Special thanks to Ateneo’s Office of International Studies for all their assistance.
