We held our Alumni Career Networking Nite in the 12th Floor Lounge of Fordham’s Lowenstein Hall in midtown Manhattan overlooking Lincoln Center. Our speakers were: Ms. Marcella Gift (IPED Class of ’04), Reseach Analyst, Analysis Group, New York; Mr. Armand Tristan Suratos (IPED Class of ’03), Research Analyst, Development Economics Research Group, World Bank; and Ms. Michelle Born (IPED Class of ’02), Program Officer, Catholic Relief Services. Ms. Gift spoke about her career in New York’s financial services industry where approximately half of our alumni are employed. Mr. Suratos talked about government careers based on his experiences at both the United Nations and the World Bank. About a fourth of our alumni work in the public sector. And Ms. Born spoke about the career opportunities that exist in international humanitarian assistance. About 15% of our alumni work in the non-profit sector

Awards
Professor Jonathan Crystal awarded the Language Immersion Study Awards to Ms. Rithika Mukerjee ($ 3,900 to study Spanish in Peru), Ms. Emily Getman ($3,900 to study Portugues in Brazil), and Mr. Eric Van Leeuwen ($3,900 to study Spanish in Costa Rica). Ms. Maria Victoria Abreu will also be receiving a $3,900 award to study Portugues in Brazil, but was unable to attend the event. Professor Gwendolyn Alexander awarded an Arrupe Overseas Field Placement Stipend of $6,000 to Ms. Tracy O’Heir for intensive Arabic language studies in Cairo. Professor Troy Tassier, with help from Professors Themeli and Venida, awarded the Eugene Diulio Essay Awards in International Relations to Ms. Maria Victoria Abreu (not pictured), Ms. Tracy O’Heir, Ms. Mariela Lazaro, and Mr. Eric Van Leeuwen.
